OSi-Dx: Open source initiative
Academic & Scientific Relations
Overview

Our concept of research is different from traditional. Traditionally research efforts are done by individuals full time devoted to it. The disadvantage that we saw here is the lack of industrial software experience where you can get knowledge on processes, sensibility on client/customers needs, high pressures for clients’ deadlines, and an orientation towards productive results.

Because of this reason our engineers work for some continuous length, as a full time research engineers and they will switch to industry/client driven projects after some time. We believe this will improve effectiveness of research results and industry/client projects by bringing new industry/client ideas/needs into research and giving research results to industry/client driven projects.  Additionally, human development of the people that works with us is highly fostered in our new world of sustainable development where human development is the centered metric of development.

History

Dextra Technologies has a long history of software development for several industries from transportation industry, banking, up to telecommunications industry.  This has opened opportunities to invest on certain technologies ahead of their peak time of demand, which has created new business relations. The most clear example of it was the investment done in Epoch during 1999, that allows us to establish contact with leading industries on telecommunications and recently establishing a strong business partnership with key players in that industry.

Thanks to the vision and hard work of the people who has worked in Dextra we were qualify as one of the eleven Symbian Compentence Center in 2000.

During 2007, and the years before, we developed a training for specific Symbian needs which help us provide talent we need for our projects. In 2008, we finally came up to the conclusion that an office of technology should exist in the company to address expressed needs from customers, universities and institutes of technology, and the challenge to keep moving with the extraordinarily fast rates of change in software technology development.
